newborn coochie-coo
singing laughing abc 
booties sweater mittens
cotton helmet muffles from the wind
worry in the backseat 
vigilant against an accident
drive more carefully please
so much loving nurture
investment in growing up
feet growing out of shoes
over and over again
imagine an 18 year old
juvenile misdemeanors
lazy couch potato worry-wart
intolerant racist abuse 
an unhappy life 
with only others to blame—
it’s pablum that mother’s love yields worthy lives
those loving moments are the worth.
