Twice Told Tales

At Bull Moose Campground we settled tents before late
unrolled sleeping bags
rode short to eat supper and after that packed ice
beer
snacks
and campfire wood onto Jerry’s Ultra.
Back at the camp
the bikes covered from rain and dew
the campfire popping with flames
the night sky darkening
lightening with laughs
memories commentary and beer
nothing ugly or hurtful in our hearts but
my balance faltered peeing more beer.
Orange juice in the morning restored my touch to the world
Jerry’s fuel stove compressed and lit
coffee in tin cups smells clean outdoors
tents packed with ground cover and poles
bikes bungeed with travel packs
Jerry’s chair strapped on top
we looked around before leaving and went.
