Twice Told Tales

The used car ad on Craigslist required 21 years or older to test drive the Audit TT.
Desert Green Pearl with Brushed Aluminum trim
coming off a two year lease with low miles
I bought it for $22000 cash and named it Totus
meaning ‘everything’ and it has two t’s
is alliterative
a fun word to say again.
Ruth’s friend Heather visiting from time to time would ask:
How’s Totus doing?
With Nokian snows and smoothie hub caps redolent of a vintage VW bus
it was never better.
Some of the bi-turbo A6 sedans
would accelerate to show themselves passing the TT—
when challenged Totus was totally demure
I’d slow to frustrate their want.

Hand washed and waxed
never dirty for long
washed waxed and admired
Totus was t-boned by a car without papers and cost
$12,000 from insurance to the auto body shop.
A couple years later with apprehension of eventual repair
I returned to Craigslist with photos of the clean engine
Totus was sold to parents buying it for their student at RIT
the kid’s mother called on the phone saying
We’d like to come see your beautiful car.
