In 6th grade I won a smart kid’s prize
I won summer school for smart kids
who are they kidding anyway
the school was across town
weekdays we the most intelligent
clocked in to work on a project
which was unfortunate because I didn’t want a project
I'd rather be outside riding my bike or playing ball
no I didn’t make any friends
I had trombone lessons
twice a week smartly walking a trombone across town
a decade later Western Kentucky University
a graduate school for local teachers welcomed me
who was that Houghton adviser trying to kid
his opinion of me could not have been good.
Decades later I got a job working with the smart
very smart at BBN.
