While in Richmond for Diana's wedding
I visited Dave and Shelly's cottage with an afternoon 
rainy clouds perfect for tea with landscaped greenery
and shrubs beneath century trees
it was pleasant like we've all been here forever
a natural progression where Dawn and I would retire
a sentiment of belonging among Dave Tom Shelly and Jane
at our weddings 40 years ago 
we all wore smooth masks without crinkles 
penciled lines composing the gospel truth
surrounding our mouths and eyes.
