he remembers the teacher’s aid
in Wilkins grade-school class
he was assigned what he called a Lewis-controller.

Lewis doesn’t understand their hostility.
In fourth grade
a U of Lowell math professor interested in childhood education
met weekly with Lewis to play with math.
He said Lewis has an insight about the Fibonacci series
which might not have been mentioned before
but after a few months Lewis said he wouldn’t continue with the tutoring.
During years of psychologist misdiagnosis
Lewis said one of the most disliked parts of school
was his undeserved reputation as always knowing the answer
whatever the question
the pressure was crushing.
