Twice Told Tales

The Old Man never came out of his house
I never saw him on his gingerbread porch
I wasn’t home if he did or
he always used the back-steps door
his son and grandson brought everything in
maybe he was crippled and hated the cold or
spent winters in the Florida room
he lost interest when his wife died
television blue’d the rooms at night
and when he passed the house summoned to mind
better days long life.
