Uncle Dog arrived in autumn a year ago
the neighborhood grass was green and wet beneath the falling leaves
he was lying down propped up on his elbows
in a yard not his own
alert and looking around
afternoon and not much residential going on
he lifted up and sauntered a few steps toward us on the sidewalk
and when we moved on
he gave one of those head bobs that says
Catch you later, man.
