Twice Told Tales

The Chevette spun twice in slow motion
over a hill in Lexington
a slippery accident just ahead.
From economy car incompetence
I thought of upgrading to the Dodge GLH
the pocket rocket was in demand
passing up the dealer upcharge for “Goes Like Hell”
I bought a Saab 900 then backed out
and got a good deal on a new GTI
stick no radio red
payments done in three years.
Lewis and Ruth in toddler seats
Liehne in the hatch and
packed for Christmas from Boston to Ohio
one year 6 inches on the Mass Pike
the VW slipped and righted itself within the lane
slipped and straightened itself again.
To the moon in the “Geet”
225 thousand miles
14 years later it rusted through the floor
inside it travels on.
