Twice Told Tales

Think of it as mowing the grass again
revolving around the house at the center of an emerald lawn
a clapboard house forest green
a boulder like ours off the driveway at Old Coach Lane
around the property a ring of fifty-foot pines
edging the grass
filtering the light
October contrast dark and bright
the afternoon green blue
kids playing inside too young to push or rake
a wife like Dawn reading a book or in the kitchen young
years to come whirling around the trees
like every year at Halloween.
