A check I’d written was cashed by Citizens Bank four days before the ‘date’
the account toppled into Overdrawn.
The customer service representative explained that
unlike online payments which are exact to the date
Citizens honors checks when presented regardless of the calendar.
Recently Citizens Bank changed the online payment form
a fill-in blank previously named Date was revised to Pay-by-Date.
I asked the Online customer service representative
had the online policy changed from respecting the date
to disrespecting it as with paper checks.
She was glad to confirm the policy was not revamped
the payee display was changed to avoid confusion and that it’s always
the payer’s responsibility when mailed checks are cashed.
Oh, I said, I was misinformed about the Online policy during the Overdrawn dispute.
The Online customer service representative then asked
is there anything else I can help with?
No, thank you, that’s enough for today.
