Twice Told Tales

A pool table crammed the tavern’s front room
through the door a small stage faced rows of folding chairs
we poured corn liquor from half pints into plastic cups
fiddlers uncased and stepped up at 8
drum sticks began telling the kit
as night blossomed from day
the band re-combined
the audience clapped to stay
or replace the musicians on stage
in a Nashville bluegrass bar.
