Twice Told Tales

Cheryl was a good runner as a kid
leaned over at the waist to go faster
she finished first in a race at Perrin Woods.
Mom supervised in the rec program there
teachers had the opportunity to supplement their income
summer employment for a dollar an hour
schoolyard activities running and tetherball
or just hanging around picnic tables in the shade.
Now 50 years later
there’s a short video with Piper
granddaughter in the snow
Cheryl runs after the sled and tumbles
bouncing like a kid although she’s getting old.
Piper is lucky to have a grandmother who aspires
to love her as heaven does and was a racer
who bounces in the snow.
