monitored the JAL network for alarms and
learned all about Tokyo’s foreigner zone 
Roppongi nurtured new arrivals all night
bar to bar

expense report-booze until sun-up
breakfast eggs and beer.
With the first Roppongi sleepless hangover
I returned to work as technically unfit as the day before.
At the office former airline attendants 
a year or two older than cute stewardesses
served coffee headache-strong twice a day. 
The second week an earthquake rocked the tower hotel 
swaying multidirectional 
I awakened passively thinking
I’m dead there’s no use making a run for it.
