It was fun when mom painted our bedrooms during school vacation
I was sleepy in the afternoons but hung around while she worked
not the shopping-cooking-cleaning-laundry work
I stuck around while she painted the bedrooms listening to the radio
the AM station was popular for dedications and requests
songs at the top of the charts were frequently played
mom deepened her voice to say “Big Bad John” 
when These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ was on
she’d say “Gonna Walk All Over You” 
though the song is about getting-even
her tone was never retaliation 
nor any relation to our personal situation
the phrases were repetitively fun to say.
