My spiritual life boosted my social ease
on a Saturday at the Homestead Deli
an errands afternoon
Jim was chatting with a friend when I went in.
I hadn’t seen him in months
he was avoiding my calls after a social faux pas
I’d mentioned the work cost more than the quote
and he’d shot back Your wife likes to chat.
At the Homestead now mindful of Dr. Chin
the child psychologist who advised
choose to be right or have friends
and Jim the carpenter avoiding my look 
I held out my hand,
“Jim I’d like to apologize for something I said
and tell again how much we enjoy
the remodel you did.”
