High blood pressure scared the doctor
he wanted to put her in an ambulance 
Mom said Wait a while doc
I came here straight from school 
in twenty minutes it’ll be normal again.
She wasn’t an angry person
oh sure she darned the devil when he frustrated her the most
and she knew him well enough to avoid his deviling 
such as the summer she drove us 
her brand new Ford up Pikes Peak 
including station wagon curtains for sleeping privacy
telling us in Ohio as we quickly packed 
We have to leave before the devil stops us.
Mellow and fun twenty minutes from teaching 
except when the devil pushed her around
not at all angry
