The kitchen cabinets and drawers close hard
they hang lop-sided on particle board
the handles are metal save-a-buck thin
the walls need paint on fingerprints and  greasy streaks
if more than one stovetop burner worked
a relief putting out a meal
the freezer drips and the lettuce drawer’s warm
the table is wobbly an economy for two
the linoleum is curled at the edges
worn through to red at the chairs
the ceramic sink is scratched and dull
the hot water handle leaks
the dish washer slosh beats down conversation
the ceiling bulb’s an unhealthy blue
the screen door doesn’t close
let’s redo the kitchen before something else goes.
