Twice Told Tales

Riding our BMW motorcycles mid-Michigan
shiny black touring bikes with electronic windscreens
six speed transmissions
hard-cases
powder-coated engine guards and highway pegs
riding past homesteads collapsed a century ago
shopping plazas where only a sandwich shop endures
a thousand miles from home and continuing west
the credit cards in our pockets scrubbed clean each month
my helmet felt heavy so I squeezed shoulders and neck.
