I tell people Merl and I met in high school
that we started as kids and lasted together without a break
it’s less romantic but we were teachers our first jobs
for lunch the teachers break room was a smokers lounge
and we went in one of the other rooms
it was Merl’s room and I added visiting her at the end of the day
also to say hello in the morning
she was in math and I was in science 
in the area of the chalkboard at the front of the room
we ended up sharing about the same slogan:
     What will you do? Is it good for the world or only good for you?
Of course after several years we were like most people 
also we weren’t devoted to changing other people’s kids.
