Twice Told Tales

Winter here has three types
among the snow-blower kind
we do straight cuts with low shoulders
our motto is “well done”
others ignore their sidewalks unreservedly
forego judgment on any soul but
shouldn’t there be a law
a penalty against standing firm indoors
while schoolkids with backpacks do all they can to walk
safely in the street
the shovelers are a third neighborhood set   God Bless!
they scrape and lift to bare a crooked path
and there’s another sort
more strain than class
they shovel door-to-car not a foot more and
drive around and around like Dante said
lacking dignity of type.
