Living on campus as sophomores
Lee and I were free to schedule our days
after dinner in the cafeteria instead of studying
pursuing an interest
or joining a fraternity
we played pinball doing flipper shots and aiming for the bumper to win free games
a tightly scalloped ashtray on the glass top of the pinball machine
propped a cigarette’s burn midair while we played.
