Chefs use white aprons and toques at Talbot’s House
Pie Paraders* love the wild blueberry (with butter crust) but
Rockland locals say the lobster quiche is to die for.
The hubbub of copper pots and pans is cloistered at the back of the B&B
when the kitchen doors swing out
triumphs are delivered into the dining room by the chefs themselves.
A sofa and upholstered chairs in the parlor compose the social scene
informal around the fireplace and mantle
they’re sized for the 19th century
indulgently.
A couch and accent chairs furnish a nook left of the hearth
the ottoman is stable for checkers or chess or
doze on the cushioned window seat
write a Hopper postcard (complimentory) or
scan the coastline with a Maine photography book.
English breakfast is served in the sunroom and
sections of the Sunday Times are racked on newspaper sticks
fire-roast coffee from Green Tree is next level fresh and sure
you can order a Bloody Mary or something from the kitchen til two.
* Rockland, Maine is Food Network’s designated Pie Town, USA.
From 2005 through 2019, the Parade was an annual fundraiser for local charities.
Patrons purchased tickets entitling them to a piece of pie from each of more than 25
local businesses and historic Inns.
January 23 is National Pie Day - deep winter in coastal Maine.
Each Pie Parade was held in January; the first was during a blizzard.
