Twice Told Tales

Late on a summer day in front of the cabin
a solitary motorboat hummed up-river
it was following the ocean tide.
A great blue heron glided near shore
a wing-tip stirred the surface once then twice;
a propeller plane buzzed winking
a soft humid light
and soon returned.
Planet Jupiter rippled as the evening dimmed
a faint beam across the water
toward the dock
toward us.
